VIDEO: 17-Year-Old Driver Flees from Police, Damaging 7 Vehicles

On October 23, 2021, around 00:20, police officers serving at the intersection of Pushkin and Parpetsi streets in Yerevan attempted to stop a "BMW" vehicle without a registration plate in accordance with the law. However, the driver, a 17-year-old resident of Yerevan, grossly violated public order and, displaying blatant disrespect for society, failed to comply with the lawful demands of the police for an extended period of time and fled the scene. During the escape, the driver damaged 7 parked vehicles and collided with a police patrol vehicle before coming to a stop.

The minor was apprehended and taken to the Central Division of the Armenian Police, where he was arrested. Following the incident, criminal proceedings were initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Yerevan Central and Norq-Marash Administrative Districts under articles 243.1, 258, 185.3.1, and 316.1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Investigators determined that the teenager was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated state and did not possess a driver’s license.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the damage caused to the owners of the vehicles amounts to approximately 5 million Armenian drams. During the investigation, materials from surveillance cameras capturing the incident have been reviewed, and forensic examinations have been commissioned.

The young driver has been charged with committing hooliganism, operating a vehicle without a license while intoxicated, using violence against a representative of authority, and intentionally causing property damage. He has been placed under arrest as a measure of constraint. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and ensure an objective and comprehensive inquiry.
