California Hypermarkets to Sell Gender-Neutral Children's Products

California has become the first state in the U.S. to require hypermarkets operating within its territory to sell gender-neutral children's products. This was reported by AP.

According to Lenta.ru, the new law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom does not prohibit the existence of traditional sections for boys and girls in retail chains. Instead, it mandates that stores must have a gender-neutral section to display items for 'smart choice', regardless of whether they have traditionally been sold to girls or boys.

This law applies only to stores that have at least 500 employees. Retailers that violate this requirement will face a $1,000 fine. In addition, the law covers a broad category of toys and 'children's care products', which includes hygiene items and cleaning agents for teeth.
