Son of Former RPA MP Appointed Acting Mayor of Jermuk
It has just been announced that Vahagn Arsenyan has been appointed as the acting mayor of Jermuk, the son of former RPA MP and owner of Jermuk Group, Ashot Arsenyan, reports Armdaily.am.
“Vahagn Arsenyan’s name has always been in the media, but 2019 was a notable year when Hetq uncovered that a criminal case had been initiated regarding the younger Arsenyan’s exemption from military service. The case was initiated based on Article 327, Part 2, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code, which relates to the forgery of documents or other means of evading military service.”
It should be noted that both of Arsenyan's sons have been exempted from military service. The elder son, Arsen Arsenyan, married during his studies and was exempted from military service on the basis of family deferment, having two children, while the younger son, Vahagn Arsenyan, was exempted due to health reasons.
Moreover, the father, Ashot Arsenyan, is a well-known representative of the former authorities in Jermuk and was frequently cited in the media for accompanying Serzh Sargsyan during his visit to Baden-Baden. This well-known visit has become a preferred political tool for the current authorities against the former ones.
Arsenyan is also among the RPA MPs who issued a statement in October 2018, supporting Nikol Pashinyan's stance on holding snap elections in December.
