Azerbaijanis Use the Airspace of Armenia, Artsakh, and Iran: Hetq

Azerbaijan's national airline "AZAL" continues to operate regular flights on the Baku-Nakhchivan-Baku route by transiting through Armenia's airspace. This was reported by Hetq.

It is noteworthy that for the first time since November 8, 2014, Azerbaijani aircraft re-entered Armenian airspace on October 6, making a domestic flight from Baku to Nakhchivan.

Flight tracking website flightradar24.com shows that starting from October 7, "AZAL" planes on their return from Nakhchivan to Baku (flight number: J2 252) are flying directly over Vayots Dzor (see above: Nakhchivan-Vayots Dzor-Vardenis-Sotk), while during the Baku-Nakhchivan flight (J2 251), starting from October 9, they are using the Sotk air gate (see below: Sotk-Vardenis-Vayots Dzor-Zangakatun-Nakhchivan), which shortens the route.

Moreover, if until this month Azerbaijani planes were avoiding not only Armenian airspace but also that of Artsakh, as can be seen on flightradar24.com, starting from October 8, "AZAL" is also passing through Artsakh's airspace, specifically over Martakert and Karvachar.

Simultaneously, flights are being conducted through the airspace of Iran, which, judging by the flight numbers (J2 2251 and J2 2252) and their non-daily nature, are irregular (non-charter). In this case, Azerbaijanis are using the Baku-Tabriz-Nakhchivan-Tabriz-Baku route. Moreover, it is operated not only by "AZAL" planes but also by its subsidiary, the budget airline "Buta Airways."
