Reports Indicate Turkey and Azerbaijan Aimed for Lightning Strike to Open 'Zangezur Corridor', Prevented Thanks to Iran: Robert Margaryan

In an interview with ArmDaily.am, Iranian studies expert and political analyst Robert Margaryan addressed various pressing issues:

- Mr. Margaryan, Iranian parliament members have issued a joint statement supporting military exercises in the country's northwestern regions. The statement particularly mentions, "Any geopolitical change in the region, including changes to the borders of neighboring countries, is a red line for Iran, and we will not hesitate to respond to the actions of foreigners. At the same time, we will not tolerate any territory being used for the activities of the Zionist regime." The conduct of military exercises along the Araks River under the title 'Khaybar Conquerors' is a message of strength and peace, and a warning to the Zionist regime.

- At first glance, the Iranian exercises, as already announced, are directed against the presence and activities of Israel near the Iranian borders and in the region. This pertains, of course, to the areas in southern Artsakh occupied by Azerbaijan during the 44-day war, which are adjacent to Iran. Incidentally, the name of the exercise is symbolic. 'Khaybar' refers to the battle waged by Muslims against the Jews during the time of the Islamic prophet. But the key question is, why is Iran recalling the element of Israel and its dangerous activation today? In recent years, Azerbaijan has been the base for many terrorist operations executed against Iran. Many of the terrorists who attempted to assassinate Iranian nuclear scientists have crossed into Iran from Azerbaijan. A few years ago, Israeli intelligence successfully extracted tens of thousands of pages of documents and files related to Iran's nuclear activities through Azerbaijan's land border. On various occasions, Israeli drones have penetrated into Iran from the Azerbaijani border and, in some cases, have been shot down. Each of these scenarios was individually far more significant than the incident involving Iranian trucks on the 20 km section of the Iran-Armenia road. Why did Iran's patience overflow in this case? I assume that Iran possesses secret information about various behind-the-scenes arrangements and conspiracies, and that is why it has been showing such activity in recent days to prevent their implementation.

Let me remind you that there is news circulating in Iranian Telegram channels stating that Turkey and Azerbaijan aimed to carry out a lightning strike to open the 'Zangezur Corridor' passing through Armenian territory, which was prevented due to Iran's activation.

- Recently, Iranians declared that if Armenia is weak in securing its borders, we will do it. Who was more directed at this statement?

- Yes, similar statements have been made by Iranian military commanders in recent days, of course without directly naming the country. But I think it's clear whom the hint is about. Iran's Supreme Leader also tweeted a similar message on Sunday, the primary addressee of which is undoubtedly the dictator of Baku, but it also indirectly concerns Nikol Pashinyan.
