VIDEO: The Volcano in the Canary Islands Has Increased Spain's Territory by the Size of 25 Football Fields
The lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano that erupted in the Canary Islands has started flowing into the ocean, covering an area equivalent to 25 football fields. This was reported by The Guardian. On the evening of September 28, the lava flow expanded La Palma island's territory by 20 hectares.
Two-week restrictions due to toxic emissions from the volcano have been lifted. The disaster has caused damage to a thousand buildings, with more than 80 percent of banana plantations, which are crucial to the country’s economy, being affected.
It is also noted that despite the harmful effects of the volcano, in the long term, it may have positive impacts on the country’s flora and fauna. Minerals brought from the Earth's core could facilitate the recovery of the region's plant and animal life within three to five years.
