Court Ruling Declares Alek Simonian Defamed

The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction, presided by Hayarpi Zargaryan, has published its decision in the case of "Alek Simonian vs. Iravunk Media LLC" and has partially upheld the claim of the Speaker of the National Assembly. This was reported by Iravaban.net based on the Judicial Information System "Datalex."

The court has classified as defamatory the expression from an article published on the iravunk.com website on June 20, 2020, titled "What Innovations Will Nikol Pashinyan Implement in August?" which states: "For example, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Alek Simonian declares that they are not loyalists, and working without bonuses is illogical."

The court has ordered Iravunk Media LLC to publicly refute the information deemed defamatory and to pay Alek Simonian 4,000 AMD as reimbursement for the state fee previously paid for the satisfied claim, along with 200,000 AMD as reasonable compensation for attorney fees.

It is worth noting that Simonian had requested the maximum amount for material compensation; however, the court found this request to be unsubstantiated. "There is no justification regarding the proportionality and reasonableness of the claimed compensation amount in that regard," the court stated.

Furthermore, it should be mentioned that there are still six cases pending in court based on Alek Simonian's claims, which pertain to compensation for damage to honor and dignity.
