Constitutional Amendments Required by Turkish Order and Verbal Agreements: Anna Mkrtchyan
Anna Mkrtchyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly from the "I Have Honor" faction, addressed the statements made by representatives of the Armenian government about the necessity of constitutional amendments in Armenia on her Facebook page. She clearly sees a connection between these statements and the declaration made today by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
In her Facebook post, Mkrtchyan emphasized that it appears that under the order of the Turkish, Armenia's Constitution must be amended. She stated, "When I heard the statements of the unpatriotic scoundrels and those who barely reached the ministerial chair regarding the constitutional amendments, I thought, as always, they are diverting attention from important issues and creating artificial questions. I assumed they were looking for ways to impose additional reprisals and extend their disgraceful present, because their only path to existence is to maintain power, even if labeled as traitors, in a formal manner."
"The reality, as always, was worse than I could imagine. Apparently, under the order of the Turkish and verbal agreements, amendments must be made to the Constitution of Armenia. I have nothing to say to these traitors. We must be able to expel them, nothing else. But serious professional circles and extra-parliamentary alternatives that prioritize the issue of constitutional amendments should know that they are promoting the amendment of the Constitution under the order of the Turkish," she wrote.
It is noteworthy that Aliyev stated that to normalize relations with Turkey, Armenia must abandon the text of its Constitution that contains territorial claims against Turkey and must draft and adopt a new constitution.
