Processes Are 'Brewing' Behind People's Backs, Carefully Hidden from Society: Abrahamyan

The extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security was once again disrupted today, leaving the question of the vice president hanging in the air, wrote Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the 'Honorary' faction on his Facebook page.

'The issue is not about having a vice president from the opposition quota but rather the government's approach, which considers the obstruction of the candidate proposed by the opposition as principled. If the same reasoning were applied to other committee leaders or vice presidents, then the opposition would not be able to benefit from its other quotas as stipulated in the relevant resolution. What worries me is not the question of positions allocated through the opposition's quota but the government's consistency in sidelining the prioritization of key issues in the country's political agenda.'

As a result, during the past week, the issues raised by the opposition regarding organizing meetings/discussions at the levels of the NSS director, minister of defense, and minister of foreign affairs have remained unfulfilled. The government’s avoidance of deep discussions on security-related issues only increases public suspicions that processes are 'brewing' behind people's backs, which are carefully hidden from society,' the member stated.
