Former Russian National Team Player Sues Facebook Over His Last Name
Former Russian national team player and current head coach of Volgograd's Rotor, Dmitry Khokhlov, has filed a lawsuit against the social media platform Facebook. The reason is more than absurd.
Khokhlov explained that Facebook perceives his last name as a derogatory term towards Ukrainians when mentioned by others, resulting in the temporary blocking of user accounts.
"The issue is that my last name gets blocked. Because of this, neither I, nor my friends and acquaintances can use Facebook and Instagram normally. Numerous people have called me and reported that any mention of my last name leads to account blocks. Generally, the punishment lasts for a week. We first noticed this at the end of this spring," said Khokhlov.
As reported by the Moscow court handling Khokhlov's case, there are challenges related to notifying and summoning Facebook representatives to court. The next court session is scheduled for October 5.
