Confusion Arises in the Investigative Committee After Establishment of Anti-Corruption Committee
According to the newspaper “Zhoghvorud”, on September 16, the former head of the Investigative Committee, Sasun Khachaturyan, was appointed as the head of the newly established Anti-Corruption Committee following a somewhat declarative competition. As is known, this newly formed body will conduct investigative actions and includes the anti-corruption functions of the Investigative Committee, the Prosecutor's Office, and the National Security Service (NSS).
However, according to information from “Zhoghvorud”, although the structure now has a leader, organizational work is still ongoing regarding the formation of the committee. We learned that confusion has arisen in the Investigative Committee after the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Committee. Specifically, decisions are being made about which cases will remain under the jurisdiction of the Anti-Corruption Committee and which cases will be sent to other pre-trial bodies.
Unequal conditions have also been created within the investigative sector, as investigators in the newly established committee will receive significantly higher salaries compared to those in other investigative bodies. In short, it has been decided that the high-profile criminal cases related to the war being investigated by the Investigative Committee will be forwarded to the Investigative Committee, but there is still no clear decision regarding other cases.
