Azerbaijanis Advance Their Position in Artsakh Community: Demand to Lower Armenian Flag at Amaras Monastery

In the Machkalashen community of the Martuni region in Artsakh, Azerbaijanis advanced their position yesterday, establishing themselves in the neutral zone. Following actions taken by the local residents and community leader, Russian peacekeepers arrived at the scene. Through negotiations, they were able to send the Azerbaijanis back to their original position. However, the Azerbaijanis put forward a condition, demanding that the Armenian flag installed at the nearby Amaras Monastery be lowered.

The community head, Lernik Avanesyan, confirmed the information about the advancing position. Regarding the flag, he mentioned that he heard yesterday that a Russian general instructed their military to take it down and replace it with the flag of Armenia. “I have not yet gone there; I do not know whether they have done it or not. I heard that the Russian general said something like that,” said the community head.
