“A Question of Decay” – Turkish Official on Recognition of the Armenian Genocide

The President of the Turkish Parliament (Meclis), Mustafa Sentop, has traveled to Spain. During a meeting with Turkish journalists, he discussed the proposal for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Spain. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.

“I can say that to date, the majorities in various compositions of the Spanish Parliament have not voted in favor of the decisions brought forward on this issue, considering the value of Spain-Turkey relations. This matter will not benefit Armenia or Armenians living in Armenia; on the contrary, it will be harmful. These are actions being pursued by the anti-Turkish circles of the Armenian diaspora, without considering the interests of their people and Armenia... Peace and cooperation are necessary,” Sentop elaborated.

He labeled the issue of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide as “a question of decay.” He proposed that instead of engaging in such matters, efforts should focus on creating an environment in the region where all peoples can live in friendship.
