Armenia to Participate in Programming World Championship Final
Students from Yerevan State University will participate in one of the most prestigious competitions in the IT sector, the ICPC World Championship final in competitive programming, organizers have announced. The championship will take place from October 1-6. For the first time in history, the competitions will be held at the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in Moscow.
“The ICPC 2021 final in Moscow will be an unprecedented event showcasing the world's most talented student programmers. By promoting education in computer technologies and inspiring the younger generation of IT professionals, we open new opportunities for upcoming generations to prepare them for future governance in the digital millennium,” said William B. Poucher, President of the ICPC Foundation and Executive Director of ICPC.
In total, more than 100 teams from over 40 countries will meet in the final. During the competition, teams of three will compete for five hours in logic, speed, and strategy by finding optimal solutions to 8-12 unique algorithmic problems of varying difficulty. The solution requires coding in one of the programming languages. The team that solves the maximum number of problems in the allotted time wins.
On October 1-2, alongside the competitions at the Manege, a practical and cognitive open program will also be held. Attendance will be open to the audience, including students, for speeches by leading speakers in IT technologies, debates on business themes, and sessions involving major employers. Registration is available via the following link.
The ICPC is the oldest IT team competition in the world, held annually since 1977. Former participants include over 300,000 of the world's top programmers, including co-founders and leading developers of global companies such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook. Of the approximately 60,000 participants in the current season's qualifying round, only about 1% have reached the finals.
