Giant Stone Fragment Weighing Several Tons Falls on Railway Line
On September 16, around 11 a.m., an emergency incident occurred at a regulated railway crossing equipped with traffic signs near the city of Ararat. A massive stone fragment weighing several tons fell from a truck with license plate 35AQ419 as it crossed the railway tracks.
As a result, rail traffic from Yerevan to Arasakh was interrupted for two hours while the obstacle was removed by the transporting company, Vex. The incident was caused by the collapse of the vehicle's cargo. The crossing is equipped with a special rubber surface that provides maximum smoothness for the road.
The South Caucasus Railway incurred significant operational costs due to the disconnection of electricity in the contact network, initial diagnostics at the incident site, and potential repairs. There were no casualties, and the schedule for electric trains was not disrupted.
