VIDEO: Doctors' Protest in Support of Armen Charchyan; Prosecutor General Meets with Them

The purpose of our gathering is to express our concern regarding the deteriorating health condition of a citizen of Armenia. This was stated by doctor Samvel Sahakyan during the protest held today in front of the Prosecutor's Office in support of Armen Charchyan.

“The citizen, who already had a severe illness, has experienced a worsening of that condition while in detention, leading to numerous complications. Almost all organ systems are severely affected, and even his eyesight has become part of a pathological process,” he said, adding that Charchyan’s condition is incompatible with detention.

He noted that if timely actions were taken, there would have been no complications. If this uncontrolled severe illness continues, it poses an extreme danger. “We are not going to express any political thoughts, nor are we going to carry out criminal-legal analyses; we are doctors, and that is what we understand. We will not make any amateur statements. We are not saying ‘justify him’; we are saying ‘change the measure of restraint so that we can organize proper treatment,’” he stated, mentioning that they wish to meet with the Prosecutor General and will approach him with a request.

Later, Samvel Sahakyan reported that he met with the Prosecutor General and presented Armen Charchyan’s health condition. “Mr. Prosecutor listened carefully, asked questions for clarification, and assured that their goal is not to keep Armen Charchyan in detention, meaning this is not an end in itself for them; it is simply how the legal process is,” he said, adding that the prosecutor mentioned the need to present substantiation for medical examinations and assured that if there are sufficient documents, he will assist in every possible way.

Doctors continued their protest in front of the Ministry of Health.
