Alen Simonyan on Calling Torture of Prisoners 'Fabricated Scenes'
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, assures that he did not deny the Human Rights Defender's statement regarding the torture of prisoners. During a question and answer session with government officials in the National Assembly, Simonyan addressed this topic.
Yesterday, Anna Mkrtchyan, a member of the 'I Have Honor' faction, quoted a part of Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan's statement regarding the torture of prisoners held in Baku. In response, the Speaker of the National Assembly literally stated that he did not understand why these 'fabricated scenes' needed to be voiced in the National Assembly.
However, today, addressing Anna Mkrtchyan, Simonyan said something entirely different: 'The chairperson does not consider it appropriate for us to air everything you voiced live. Those men will live in the Republic of Armenia, and how do you imagine saying such scenes live?)
Simonyan added that he did not deny the reports but wanted to express that when discussing such scenes, one must consider the feelings of the parents, the prisoners, and the public.
It is worth noting that Simonyan's statements made during the National Assembly session yesterday sparked discussions and criticism on social media.
