25-year-old driver under the influence hits pedestrian with Range Rover
Today, September 14, a fatal pedestrian accident occurred in Yerevan. At around 01:15, 25-year-old Hayk Avdalyan, a resident of the Ararat region, hit 68-year-old Sofik Hovhannisyan, a resident of Yerevan, with his Range Rover on Artsakh Street, near house number 14.
According to photoreporter Gagik Shamshyan from the scene, an emergency medical team from Yerevan arrived promptly, but it was determined that the pedestrian had died on the spot. Officers from the Yerevan patrol service’s first platoon, led by platoon commander Harutyun Grigoryan and third platoon commander Gevorg Torosyan, also arrived quickly at the scene.
Additionally, the commander of the Yerevan battalion Khachik Samvelyan and deputy commander Andranik Isakhanyan arrived at the scene. Information about the incident was forwarded from Yerevan Patrol Service to the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Yerevan Transport Crime Investigation Division, where an investigative team led by head of the division Karapetyan, deputy head Samvel Samvelyan, and senior investigator for particularly important cases Artur Gasoyan arrived.
According to G. Shamshyan, driver H. Avdalyan is a private entrepreneur, and his driving rights had been suspended. It was also determined that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Based on the findings, a criminal case was initiated under the second part of Article 242 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, as per the directive of A. Gasoyan. By the inspector's order, the vehicle was transferred to a secured area of the Yerevan battalion.
