Inflation Ranges from 10% to 40%: Which Products Have Become More Expensive
Inflation rates in Armenia are not easing. In the country’s consumer market, an inflation rate of 8.8% was recorded in August 2021 compared to August of the previous year. This is reported by the Statistical Committee in a published report, which indicates that this year’s August has also seen the most noticeable inflation in the food sector.
In August 2021, compared to the same month last year, there was a 15.1% inflation rate for food products and non-alcoholic beverages in the republic. Within the vegetable product group, inflation reached 66.4% during the same period, while the fruit product group saw an inflation rate of 8.7%. The fish and seafood category recorded a 25.5% inflation rate, and the meat product group had an inflation rate of 9.9%. For instance, the price of pork increased by 40.3% in August 2021 compared to the same time last year. Dairy products and eggs saw a price increase of 12.2%, with the price of eggs increasing by 46.5% compared to August of the previous year.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco became more expensive by 9.3%, oils and fats increased by 29.1%, while the price of sunflower oil saw a staggering increase of 61.9%. Sugar prices rose by 36.2%. Non-food products increased in price by 9.4%. In August of this year, compared to July, gasoline prices went up by 2.2%, and diesel fuel prices increased by 1.6%. Compared to August of the previous year, gasoline became more expensive by 47.5%, while diesel fuel prices rose by 44.3%.
Among non-food products, clothing and footwear increased in price by 10.3% this August compared to the same month last year. Household items and appliances increased by 9.5%, and transportation costs saw a 10% rise.
