Three Earthquakes in One Week: Seismic Activity Observed in Armenia
The Seismological Network of the Ministry of Emergency Situations has registered three earthquakes with magnitudes of 2-3 and above in the territories of Armenia and Artsakh from September 2 to 8, 2021.
On September 3, an earthquake was recorded in the Georgia-Armenia border area, 12 km northeast of the village of Bavra with a magnitude of 2-3, and 16 km northeast of Bavra with a magnitude of 4-5. This tremor was felt in various locations in Armenia including Saragyugh, Zuygaghbyur, Amasia, Ashotzk, Tavshut, Bavra in Shirak Province, as well as Shirakamut in Lori Province, with a magnitude of 3.
On September 5, another quake occurred 3 km southeast of the village of Shorja in Armenia, registering magnitudes of 2-3.
In total, four earthquakes with magnitudes of 3 and above were reported in the region: on September 4, in the Turkey-Iran border area, 25 km south of the city of Saray with a magnitude of 4-5; on September 6, in Iran, 45 km southeast of the city of Khoy with a magnitude of 4 and 34 km southeast with a magnitude of 3; and on September 7, in the Iran-Turkey border area, 46 km northwest of the city of Salmas with a magnitude of 4-5.
