Nearly Half a Million Tourists Have Arrived in Armenia, a 30% Increase Compared to Last Year, Says Kerobyan

At the end of August, the number of tourists arriving in Armenia had increased by 30%, said Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan in a conversation with reporters after a government meeting.

“By the end of August, approximately 488,000 tourists have arrived in Armenia. Last August, this figure was about 143,000. This indicates that we have recorded a 30% increase compared to last year,” said Kerobyan.

He noted that he expects more than one million tourists by the end of the year, with a target of 1.2 million.

At the same time, Kerobyan addressed the unstable situation related to coronavirus in various countries, stating that under such conditions, it is difficult to make predictions.

Earlier, in March, Kerobyan announced that tourism growth in 2021 would be 319% compared to the previous year. This time he mentioned that he would not insist that Armenia reaches that figure, but everything is possible.

For comparison, in 2020, the number of tourists in Armenia was only 375,000. In the pre-COVID year of 2019, 1.9 million tourists visited Armenia, while in 2018, the figure was 1.65 million.
