The Purpose of Examining Sugar Price Increase Justified by the State Commission
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reported today that the sugar market in Armenia is once again in a chaotic state. Not only is the price of sugar high, but some stores are completely out of stock. For several days, "Zhoghovurd" has been receiving phone calls from citizens stating that they cannot purchase sugar in bags from stores and supermarkets in recent days.
In fact, in some rural shops, residents are unable to buy even one kilogram of sugar due to its absence. The State Commission for Protection of Economic Competition (TPPPC) recently issued a statement indicating that it continues to monitor the sugar market.
The Commission noted that the retail price of sugar has increased by around 20 drams in major commercial centers. In order to clarify the justification for the increase in sugar prices, the Commission is carrying out several adjustments and inquiries. It should also be noted that no signs of artificial shortage in the sugar market have been recorded, according to the statement.
