The Criminal Case Against Surik Ohanyan Will Be Reviewed by Judge Gnel Gasparyan

The criminal case against Surik Ohanyan, the administrative head of the community of Vorotan in the Syunik region, will be reviewed by Judge Gnel Gasparyan of the Syunik Region General Jurisdiction Court.

It should be noted that after the snap parliamentary elections, the head of the Vorotan community, Suren Ohanyan, was arrested on suspicion of giving electoral bribes under Article 154.2, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code. The prosecuting authority charged Ohanyan and submitted a motion to the court to select detention as a preventive measure, which was granted. Moreover, the prosecuting authority presented the financial assistance provided to the residents of the community from the state budget as a bribe.

A decision was made to detain Surik Ohanyan, and an appeal against this decision was rejected, despite Ohanyan having serious health issues. Later, the prosecuting authority replaced the preventive measure of detention with a signature ensuring he would not leave, after which Ohanyan was released.
