Decisions on Who Will Visit or Not Visit Artsakh Are Made in Moscow: Argishti Kiviryans

After the second Nagorno-Karabakh war, Armenia effectively handed over the keys to Artsakh's security guarantees to Moscow. This was stated by political analyst Argishti Kiviryans during a press conference today.

“After the second Nagorno-Karabakh war, Armenia effectively handed over the keys to Artsakh's security guarantees to Moscow. After the signing of the statements on November 9 and 10, when Russian peacekeeping troops were deployed in Artsakh, it is actually Moscow that acts as the guarantor of Artsakh’s security. Globally speaking, decisions regarding who will visit or not visit Artsakh are made in Moscow. This issue has not been decided in Yerevan since November 9; it is determined in Moscow,” he said.

“Well, let’s say Nikol Pashinyan went to Artsakh and endangered its security. Was that right, or was it right not to go? At one point, he went and said, ‘Artsakh is Armenia, and that’s final,’ and we all know the consequences of that, right? All these statements and irresponsible actions led to the resumption of the second war in Nagorno-Karabakh. Now, if he goes and stands in Stepanakert, and according to his style, again starts shouting ‘Artsakh is Armenia, and that’s final,’ and if provocations or actions take place, all those people who say ‘why didn’t he go’ will be asking, ‘why did he go?’” he added.

The analyst believes that today we are in a very complicated situation, and any irresponsible step could lead to additional catastrophes for the Armenian people, especially since we do not currently have our own security guarantor—our army.

“It is clear that the puppets of the ruling party who went there should have been received by the Artsakh Armenians in such a manner. If the Artsakh Armenians had welcomed them even more harshly, it would have been appropriate, especially since their political actions resulted in this disaster for the Armenian nation and people. No one is saying the previous ones were right, but at that time you were in power and incapable of governing, you should have handed over the power,” he stated.
