Emergency Declared in New York as Death Toll Rises to Nearly 20

Emergency has been declared in New York due to flooding. A state of emergency has also been declared in New Jersey. The flooding is a result of Hurricane Ida, which prompted the National Hurricane Center to issue warnings about flooding risks in the Northeastern United States on September 1.

The death toll from the flooding has now reached nearly 20. In New York, the subway system has gone underwater, disrupting the city's preferred mode of transportation.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain indoors and avoid going out onto the streets. Just days ago, Hurricane Ida had already escalated to a Category 4 storm, with wind speeds exceeding 200 km/h.

Residents had been warned about the potential for flooding and its consequences.
