Lavrov on the Only Long-term Solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Border Issues
The issues present at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border can be resolved through political-diplomatic means, and long-term regulation is only possible through delimitation and demarcation. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following his meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
“The President’s (Russian President Vladimir Putin – ed.) readiness in this regard is well known. We discussed today how to ensure the rapid implementation of this process. We confirmed our readiness to support this process in every way,” Lavrov emphasized.
Lavrov noted that during the meeting with Mirzoyan, the issue of the Nagorno-Karabakh resolution was also among the topics discussed. According to Lavrov, special attention was given to the issues of strengthening peace, security, and stability in the South Caucasus during the meeting.
The Russian Foreign Minister mentioned that they thoroughly examined the implementation of the trilateral agreements reached between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020, which allowed for the cessation of hostilities and brought the situation into a political resolution.
“We agreed not to weaken our focus on the elimination of factors causing tension in the relations between Yerevan and Baku, including the final resolution of the issues of returning Armenian prisoners of war and handing over maps of mined areas. The necessity of the further activity of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs was reaffirmed,” concluded Lavrov.
