VIDEO: 'We have refused to purchase old weapons,' says Armenian Defense Minister
Armenia has refused to acquire old weapons. This is the country’s policy. In an interview with ZINUzh Media, Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan stated this during his working visit to Russia.
It is noted that today the minister participated in the opening ceremony of the 'Friendship House' at the Alabino training ground near Moscow, where countries participating in the International Army Games showcased their cultural pavilions.
'We have full support, and I can say that I have not heard a word of dissent here. We will take practical steps to develop our cooperation with Russia,' Karapetyan stated.
Referring to the topic of armament, he emphasized that they plan to have quality and new weapons. According to him, it is better to have less, but quality weapons, knowing for sure that they will operate.
The Defense Minister also pointed out that Armenia needs to have its own arms production. 'In this matter, we also have support from Russia in the form of opening joint enterprises. We will do this quickly. Moreover, we must not allow intermediaries between the Ministry of Defense and manufacturing enterprises,' said the minister.
He concluded his statement by saying that as a result of all this, we will definitely have a new modernized army capable of facing current challenges.
Additionally, Karapetyan visited the 'Patriot' center, where the 'Army 2021' military-technical conference and exhibition is taking place. The Defense Minister also held a series of working meetings with the heads of defense industry companies.
