Official Yerevan Has Yet to Respond to Aliyev's Statements; Hope Silence Is Not a Sign of Agreement - Tevanyan
With the results of Armenia's snap parliamentary elections inspiring him, Aliyev has hardened his stance on the peace treaty, delimitation, and demarcation issues. This was stated by Andranik Tevanyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction, during a speech in the National Assembly.
'Aliyev demands that Armenia recognize Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, which must also include Nagorno-Karabakh, and he demands the disbanding of Armenian forces in Artsakh, threatening new war. On the topic of unblocking communications, he uses the term 'Zangezur Corridor.' Aliyev has gone so far in his demands that he is asking Moscow not to supply weapons to Armenia, which he claims has accepted its own defeat,' said Tevanyan, emphasizing that Azerbaijan's aggressive behavior does not stem from the trilateral statements of November 9 and January 11.
The member of parliament also expressed surprise that the Armenian side has not yet responded to Aliyev.
'Unfortunately, official Yerevan has not yet responded to Aliyev's statements, which is at least puzzling. We hope that in this case, silence is not a sign of agreement. Aliyev may have interpreted Yerevan's silence as a sign of weakness and has launched an attack; we have casualties, and Armenian settlements are being shelled. This is unacceptable; we aspire to peace, but not at the cost of our dignity, freedom, and independence,' concluded Tevanyan.
