Flights Banned at Kabul International Airport Except for Military Aircraft

All commercial flights from Kabul International Airport have been suspended, a NATO representative has reported. According to BBC, only military aircraft are permitted to operate.

British Airways has confirmed that it is currently not flying over Afghan airspace.

The Iranian Tasnim agency released a video of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani leaving the country, showing the state leader climbing the stairs, waving his hand, and boarding a Kam Air aircraft.

The Taliban radical movement had offered President Ghani a peaceful transfer of power, but he fled the country. “We offered President Ghani a peaceful transfer of power to avoid a security vacuum, but he ran away,” the television channel quoted a Taliban representative.

Earlier reports indicated that the Taliban had already joined the presidential council and would reportedly take full control of the Afghan capital within hours.

As Al Arabiya notes, amid these events, the Taliban has urged Kabul residents to stay in their homes for safety reasons.
