Disorder in Ankara: Dozens Arrested Following Attacks on Syrians

The Turkish authorities have arrested 76 people in connection with a mass attack on a neighborhood in Ankara with a large Syrian population, according to the capital's police.

As reported by Ahval, the police urged citizens to 'not pay attention to provocative news and posts on social media and to assist law enforcement.' On Wednesday, a mob attacked the homes and businesses of Syrians in the Altındağ working-class district of Ankara, where two days earlier, two young Turkish men were injured during a brawl between locals and Syrians.

On Wednesday night, police attempted to disperse hundreds of people who had taken to the streets. In one video filmed during the riots, an officer can be seen directing the crowd and advising them on how to act.

Tensions surrounding the refugee issue in Turkey have persisted for several years, with the Turkish public recently expressing increasingly open hostility towards refugees and migration, as well as showing less enthusiasm for sending troops abroad.
