This Insult is Horrendous: Zhirinovsky on the Offensive Remarks Made by an Azerbaijani Diplomat
Russian television presenter Vladimir Solovyov addressed the offensive statements made by former Azerbaijani ambassador Isfandiar Vahabzadeh towards the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and the Russian people during a broadcast of his YouTube show, "Solovyov Live." Earlier, Zhirinovsky had stated during a radio program that no one has the right to even look askance at the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. Furthermore, he reminded listeners of several historical details about Azerbaijan that are categorically denied within the country.
Zhirinovsky's remarks received a negative reaction in Baku, with the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry even issuing a note of protest. Vahabzadeh responded by recording a video in which he directed insults towards Zhirinovsky and also targeted the Russian people. Solovyov displayed this video during the broadcast, showing his outrage.
The presenter reflected on the diplomat's biography, concluding that Vahabzadeh is "hurt" by the Azerbaijani authorities and is intentionally seeking to sow discord between the Russian and Azerbaijani peoples. Solovyov also stated that he is awaiting comments from Azerbaijani officials.
Upon learning about Vahabzadeh's act, Zhirinovsky declared that this insult would not go unpunished: "We will send a stern letter to the leadership of the Republic of Azerbaijan demanding a criminal case. This insult is horrendous. It is complete medievalism," he said.
