25-Year-Old Driver Crashes Opel into Caterpillar Excavator on Newly Constructed Road; One Injured
On August 8, a serious traffic accident occurred in Yerevan. Around 10:00 PM, 25-year-old Artashes Azaryan collided with a Caterpillar excavator driven by 44-year-old Babken Babayan while driving his Opel Astra near house number 162/1 on Shahumyan Street, leading from the Nazarbekyan district to the Southwest district.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, following the collision, the Opel struck a concrete barrier installed in the road divider.
As a result of the accident, the driver of the Opel, A. Azaryan, was first aided by employees of the nearby "Petrol Oil" gas station and then received initial medical care from paramedics who arrived promptly on the scene. He was subsequently transported to the "Astghik" medical center.
Firefighters disconnected the power to the Opel and closed the gas cylinder valve since the car had been reduced to a heap of metal debris, with a gas cylinder and one of the car's wheels damaged in the collision.
