Russian Border Guards to Monitor Armenia-Azerbaijan Border with Drones

Russian border guards have been stationed in the border town of Paruyr Sevak following the end of the war, establishing a border post. They continue to remain deployed in the area. The number of border guards has neither increased nor decreased during these months.

The head of the Paruyr Sevak community told "Factinfo" that the situation remains calm. The administrative territory of this community includes Tigranashen, which has frequently been discussed in relation to potential handover to the Azerbaijani side. The community leader assures that there are no indications or discussions regarding the surrender of lands from the village.

The regional administration also holds frequent meetings on security, defense, and civil protection, regardless of the situation. However, there have been no incidents or meetings that could lead to border changes.

It is noteworthy that authorities have not ruled out the possibility of handing over enclaves, including Tigranashen, suggesting that border delimitation must take place.

When asked about unexpected gunfire from the enemy's side towards Yeraskh, and whether there are concerns about potential hostile actions in the community, the mayor stated: "Regardless of which border of our country is restless, it is natural to have anxiety and concern. The concern does not relate to conceding anything, but rather a worry for peace, which does not imply fear about giving anything away."

On November 13, Russian news agency TASS reported that Alexander Bortnikov, director of the FSB of Russia, informed President Vladimir Putin during a meeting that an additional five border posts had been established in Armenia, including in Yeraskh and Paruyr Sevak (Ararat Province), as well as in Megrit, Tegh, and Syghrt (Syunik Province).

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also discussed the deployment of Russian border guards, although the geographical context was different. Recently, it has become clear that Russian border guards have been stationed in the village of Voskepar in the Tavush region.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenia stated that construction works are being carried out to ensure the border guards' logistical support. This process is taking place within the framework of Armenian-Russian cooperation. The Armenian Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Russian border guards are being deployed, stating, "The deployment of Russian border guards in certain border areas is within the framework of Armenian-Russian cooperation, and there is nothing extraordinary about this. "

When asked whether border guards would also be stationed in the Aygehovit, Azatamut, and Berkaber areas of Tavush, the ministry noted that they could not provide information regarding these areas at this time. It is also noted that the head of the Azatamut community mentioned that several border guards have already arrived in their vicinity. The agency has confirmed that Russian border guards will carry out monitoring with drones, which is an ongoing occurrence. Previously, monitoring was done with telescopes, but now it is conducted with both telescopes and drones, which are merely working tools that help to perform tasks more effectively.
