Russian Foreign Ministry on Armenia-Azerbaijan Border

Russian Foreign Ministry representative Alexander Bikantov addressed the armed clashes at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border during a press briefing held on August 5.

“I would like to emphasize that the Russian side is seriously concerned about the recent increase in armed incidents occurring in certain areas of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. It is particularly worrisome that these incidents are accompanied by human losses on both sides. Unfortunately, despite all the measures being taken, tensions at the border have not yet diminished. In this regard, we call on all parties to refrain from any actions that may lead to a further deterioration of the situation. All emerging issues should be resolved exclusively through peaceful, political-diplomatic means,” said the diplomat.

He added that “Russia is ready to continue to actively contribute to the resolution of the situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, including through the implementation of de-escalation measures and the initiation of demarcation and delimitation works.”

“These efforts, along with the unblocking of economic ties in the region and the promotion of inter-community dialogue, will help transform the South Caucasus into a zone of stability, prosperity, and development, in accordance with the statements made by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia on November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021,” noted the Foreign Ministry representative.
