Simon Martirosyan's Medal Should Have Been Gold: Karen Giloyan
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Karen Giloyan, believes that the silver medal won by weightlifter Simon Martirosyan at the Olympic Games represents a failure for the Armenian Olympic team.
“We could have had two golds and one bronze medal, but we ended up with two silver medals. Boxer Hovhannes Bachkov had an excellent day. We always expect gold from Aleksanyan. He is now a knight of three medals and a very strong athlete,” Giloyan told Armenian journalists in Tokyo, according to Armenpress.
He emphasized that there was a need to address the refereeing bias in Arthur Aleksanyan's match, and it is important to learn from this experience. “In Simon's case, we have failed. He could not properly adjust his weight. 238 kg was within Simon's capabilities. We need to draw conclusions,” he said.
