VIDEO: Arman Darchinyan's Victorious Bout at the Olympic Games
At the Tokyo Olympic Games in the boxing tournament, Arman Darchinyan of Armenia had a successful start in the 75 kg weight category on July 29. In the 1/8 finals, the Vanadzor boxer achieved a confident victory with a score of 5:0 against the European Games silver medalist, European champion among youth, and 23-year-old Slovak Andrei Shemezi.
The press service of the Armenian Boxing Federation has presented footage of the bout. In the quarterfinals, Arman Darchinyan will fight against Filipino Eumir Marcial on August 1.
It is worth mentioning that the Armenian team is also represented by Hovhannes Bachkov (63 kg), the 2018 European champion, winner of the 2019 European Games in Minsk, and bronze medalist in the World Championships of 2018 and 2019. He secured a convincing victory against Alston Ryan from Antigua in his opening match on July 25, moving on to the 1/8 finals, where he will compete against Azerbaijani Javid Chelebiyev on July 31.
However, Koryun Sogomonian (52 kg) was eliminated from the competition after losing in the 1/16 finals on July 26 to Jalal Yafai representing Great Britain.
