Protests Erupt in Iran Over Lack of Drinking and Irrigation Water Amidst Clashes Leading to Approximately 10 Fatalities
Protests that began on July 15 in the southwestern Khuzestan province of Iran over the lack of drinking and irrigation water are intensifying, with demonstrations now spreading across various parts of the country. According to multiple human rights organizations cited by CNN, the death toll from clashes between security forces and protesters could reach 10, with many individuals suffering severe injuries.
Furthermore, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that at least 102 people have been arrested in 30 cities and regions of Iran during the last 10 nights of unrest. It is important to note that the protests, originally sparked by the water crisis, have taken on new dimensions in certain areas, transforming into calls for the resignation of the government and protests against the Supreme Leader of the country.
Notably, Iran is currently experiencing its worst drought in half a century, significantly impacting households, agriculture, and livestock.
