Israeli Army Confirms Strike on Hamas Military Base in Gaza
Israeli fighter jets struck a Hamas military base in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of July 26, in response to the launch of incendiary balloons and explosives aimed at igniting fires in the Jewish state. This was reported by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in a statement.
“Israeli Air Force fighter jets targeted a Hamas military base used for terrorist activities. The strikes were carried out in response to the launch of balloons towards Israeli territory for the purpose of ignitions,” the statement said. The military noted that the (Hamas) military base was located near civilian facilities, including schools.
“The Israel Defense Forces will continue to decisively confront attempts of terrorism from the Gaza Strip,” the press service added. Earlier, the Palestinian Al-Aqsa radio station reported that on the night of July 26, there were attacks on positions of groups associated with the so-called Palestinian resistance factions near Khan Younis and the city of Gaza. There are no reports of casualties or destruction.
According to the radio station's information, Palestinian groups opened return fire towards the Jewish state's air force. A ceasefire regime was established on May 21 between Israel and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip, after 11 days of exchanged rocket fire. The casualties from the confrontation included 257 residents of the coastal enclave, with around 2,000 injured. From the Israeli side, 13 people were reported killed, TASS reported.
