«Thief in Law» Gevork from Oshakan to be Released on a 50 Million Dram Bail
«Thief in Law» known as Gevork Melikyan from Oshakan will be released on a bail of 50 million drams, reports HJ.
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Marine Melkonyan, today granted the defense's request and chose bail as an alternative measure for Melikyan. After the 50 million dram deposit is paid to the court's account, Melikyan will be released.
Gevork Melikyan's lawyer Mntzakn Marukyan told us that his client will be released on bail. It is worth noting that the so-called «Thief in Law» is accused under Article 223.1, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which pertains to the establishment or leadership of a criminal collaboration.
According to the indictment, Gevork Melikyan, regarded as a figure of authority, has engaged in activities aimed at furthering the goals of a criminal subculture group, specifically by using his illegal influence to resolve a dispute regarding the repayment of a debt in favor of the individual who approached him with threats.
