Intense Gunfire Continues in Gegharkunik Region, Ambulance Dispatched to Positions: Village Head of Geghamasar

Intense gunfire has erupted towards the Armenian positions in the village of Kut in the Gegharkunik region from Azerbaijani forces. This was reported to NEWS.am by the head of Geghamasar village, Hakob Avetyan.

“The shooting is ongoing at this moment. An ambulance has ascended to the positions. They are shooting with various types of weapons,” Avetyan stated.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense announced that around 17:00, the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on the Armenian positions located in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. This was preceded by gunfire from their own Azerbaijani military outposts, which may be related to an interpersonal incident among Azerbaijani servicemen. This is also suggested by the fact that the Azerbaijani defense ministry stated that an Azerbaijani soldier was killed as a result of fire opened by the Armenian side.

The Ministry of Defense of Armenia declares that retaliatory actions were not taken until the moment the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire on the Armenian positions.

As a result of the intensified exchange of fire stemming from another Azerbaijani provocation, three servicemen of the RA Armed Forces have sustained light gunshot wounds. Their lives are not in danger.
