Competition Protection Commission Statement on Liquefied Gas Price Increase

The Competition Protection Commission informs that the liquefied gas market is competitive and has low concentration. However, the Commission has made several clarifications regarding the price increase of liquefied gas. This announcement was made by the spokesperson of the Commission, Ani Smbatyan.

It is noted that this is due to processes occurring in the global liquefied gas market, particularly the easing of restrictions related to the pandemic, as well as seasonality, which has contributed to an increase in demand.

Employees of the Commission have also conducted verbal discussions with companies importing liquefied gas, which confirm that acquisition prices have particularly risen, and there are logistical issues that are being addressed.

As of July 22, the retail price of liquefied gas in the Russian Federation is 185-220 drams, in Georgia it is 220-250 drams, in Turkey 275 drams, in France 500 drams, in Ukraine 288 drams, and in Pakistan 660 drams (there is a high demand for liquefied gas in Pakistan and Afghanistan, even in the presence of high prices).

It is reminded that over 50 economic operators are active in this sector, and according to preliminary studies, there are no companies with a dominant position, thus these companies cannot have a decisive impact on the general conditions of the sector, including prices.
