Vagharshak Harutyunyan's 'Underbelly Dug': Details of Resignation
The newspaper “Jrapal” reports that details have emerged regarding the resignation of Armenia’s Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan. According to our sources, Harutyunyan’s departure from the Ministry of Defense has been considered quite strange and surprising, especially since in recent months and weeks, his close associates repeatedly asked him about rumors of his dismissal and a potential replacement by Karapetyan. He insisted that such discussions were baseless and that there was no such plan.
While his associates are astonished and still lack an explanation for his dismissal, other conversations within the Ministry of Defense suggest otherwise. Specifically, there is a belief that Vagharshak Harutyunyan’s removal was not accidental. It is thought that the authorities did not send Arshak Karapetyan to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff by chance; rather, it was previously determined that once the elections had successfully concluded, Karapetyan would be appointed as Minister of Defense.
There are reports that the Prime Minister had received so much information regarding Vagharshak Harutyunyan’s performance, asserting that he was unable to manage or cope with the challenges of the region, that the authorities decided to replace him. In other words, it seems that the “underbelly of Harutyunyan has been dug” within the Ministry of Defense, leading to his dismissal.
We attempted to speak with Vagharshak Harutyunyan regarding the situation, but he did not respond to our phone calls or messages throughout the day.
