Pashinyan Discusses Azerbaijan's Actions
Unfortunately, the geopolitical situation in our region remains tense. This was stated today, July 22, by the acting Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, during a cabinet meeting.
“Azerbaijan's provocative actions and expansionist ambitions create new threats for our region, for Armenia and Artsakh. In this context, I want to emphasize the key role that Russia plays in ensuring stability and security in our region. The joint grouping of the armed forces of Armenia and Russia and the Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh are of fundamental importance for ensuring peace and stability in the region.
At the same time, I maintain that Azerbaijan aims to disrupt the implementation of the trilateral statements of November 9 and January 11, particularly regarding the opening of regional communications and the unblocking of Armenia. As in the past, Armenia considers the opening of regional communications to be very important and a priority, and we are ready to continue work in this direction with the expectation of achieving concrete results,” he said.
Pashinyan expressed hope that Azerbaijan would fulfill its written commitment to return captives, hostages, and other detained persons as soon as possible. “Since May 12 of this year, the breach of the Armenian border by Azerbaijan in the Sotk-Khoznavar sector is unacceptable. We reaffirm our proposal to resolve the crisis in that sector through the mirrored withdrawal of the military units of both sides from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the deployment of Russian border guards, and possibly international observers, which could create the necessary conditions for delimitation and demarcation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
We also reaffirm our previously expressed readiness to resume peace negotiations. Stability and peace in the region have no alternative, and the Government of Armenia is committed to implementing the mandate received from the people of Armenia to open a new era of peaceful development for Armenia, Artsakh, and the region as a whole,” Pashinyan announced.
