Jeff Bezos Announces Plans for Space Road After Flight to Space
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has announced that his space company, Blue Origin, has sold nearly $100 million worth of space tourism tickets. The billionaire revealed the sales figures following his space flight, as reported by Business Insider.
The official ticket sales began on the morning of July 20, the day of Bezos' flight. According to the businessman, there is significant demand for the tickets. The cost of the flight for tourists has not been disclosed. For comparison, American businessman Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic offers flights to space at a price of $250,000.
“We will build a road to space for our children and grandchildren. We have to do this in order to solve the problems on Earth,” Bezos stated.
The American entrepreneur flew to space on July 20 aboard the New Shepard spacecraft, accompanied by his younger brother Mark, 82-year-old pilot Wally Funk, and 18-year-old student Oliver Daemen. The total duration of the flight was 10 minutes and 10 seconds. The capsule detached from the carrier rocket and ascended to an altitude of 100 km above sea level, propelled by inertia.
