Armen Grigoryan on the Situation at the Border
On July 20, Acting Foreign Minister Armen Grigoryan met with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia. The information was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The key topic of the meeting was the situation arising from Azerbaijan's encroachments on Armenia's sovereign territory, specifically the incursions of Azerbaijani armed forces into the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, as well as the creation of a new focal point of tension in the Ararat region towards the village of Yeraskh over the past week.
During the meeting, Armen Grigoryan stated that alongside these actions, official Baku is making territorial and historical false claims against Armenia, which clearly indicate Azerbaijan's expansionist aspirations towards the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
It was emphasized that the use of force against the people of Artsakh, and the inadequate response of the international community to mass crimes, including ethnic cleansing, have encouraged Azerbaijan to make the use of force a permanent tool of its policy, threatening regional security and peace.
In this context, Armen Grigoryan specifically highlighted: “The Republic of Armenia and the entire Armenian people will not tolerate such violations of their rights. Today, the Armed Forces of Armenia are fully fulfilling their obligations to ensure the territorial integrity of Armenia. Armenia will utilize its entire military-political toolkit, also cooperating through relevant bilateral and multilateral formats.”
Armen Grigoryan emphasized that Armenia expects a clear response from international partners to Azerbaijan's violations of international law.
It was particularly stressed that without the resumption of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process and, ultimately, the resolution of the conflict, the region will constantly face new attempts to destabilize security.
“Armenia is ready to engage in the peace settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the approaches proposed by the co-chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group, which reaffirm the principles developed by the co-chairmanship, including the right to self-determination,” Armen Grigoryan stated.
