Sukiasyan's Brother Voluntarily Presented Himself to the Police, Fired in Self-Defense, Defense Lawyer Says
Robert Sukiasyan's bail measure related to the investigative committee's request for his detention is currently unknown to me. This is very surprising.
In an interview with Haykakan Jamanak, Gohar Mikayelyan, Robert Sukiasyan's defense lawyer, stated:
- Sir Mikayelyan, does Robert Sukiasyan accept the charge against him, or has he given a statement?
- Robert Sukiasyan voluntarily presented himself to the police, expressed his willingness to assist the law enforcement agencies, and presented the weapon he used, which has been seized. After that, I consider the arrest illegal. If a person voluntarily appears at the police station, what is there to talk about fleeing?
Robert Sukiasyan has been interrogated as a suspect and has given a statement regarding the circumstances of the incident, acknowledging that he fired for self-defense.
- Can you detail what circumstances led to the incident, why Robert Sukiasyan had to defend himself?
- I cannot disclose details about the circumstances, as it would hinder the pre-investigation and could harm the interests of the other party; therefore, I do not want our trial to be transferred to social media or the news platform.
- Mr. Mikayelyan, what kind of relationship do your clients and the victim have? Have they known each other before?
- I cannot provide information on this. I can only say that there is no criminal offense in Mr. Sukiasyan's actions. If, as a result of the trial, they manage to prove Robert Sukiasyan's guilt, which I doubt, Sukiasyan is ready to bear responsibility. I should also mention that there is information in the materials provided to us that the investigative committee has numerous videos from the crime scene. I am confident that when they are published later, everyone will see the circumstances surrounding the incident.
- There are reports circulating in the media claiming that your client was with Arman Apiyan, known by the nickname 'Baghniki Arman', during the incident. Are these reports true?
- I cannot provide details, but I can say that they were not together; however, Apiyan was present at the time of the incident. I cannot say more.
It is noteworthy that on July 18, around 19:30, gunshots were heard on Amiryan Street. An American citizen suffered a gunshot wound. Robert Sukiasyan was arrested yesterday within the framework of a criminal case initiated.
