Police Attempted to Detain Drug-Using Citizen, Assaulted by His Friends

On July 18, an employee of the Artashat police department reported that on the same day, around 20:40, while performing duties in a recreational area in the Lanjazat community of Ararat province, they noticed two individuals using drugs in a Nissan vehicle and attempted to detain them. However, individuals in a nearby booth obstructed the detention process, refused to comply with legal demands, and struck the officer, causing them to fall and dislocate their shoulder.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Ararat regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under the first part of Article 316 of the Armenian Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, a group of individuals were attending a party in the Lanjazat community when they noticed police attempting to detain a friend of one of the party participants. Under the influence of alcohol, attendees obstructed police work, during which they verbally abused and physically assaulted one of the officers.

As a result of investigative and other procedural actions, as well as measures undertaken in cooperation with the officers of the Police of Armenia, the identities of two individuals who committed violence against the police officer have been established. They have been interrogated as suspects and provided confessional statements.

The investigating authority has decided to impose a travel restriction as a measure against them. To clarify circumstances of significant importance in the criminal case, forensic medical and forensic trace examinations have been appointed, and confrontational interrogations have been conducted. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Measures are being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident and ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation.
