No Grass Available: Winter Supplies for Livestock Gathered Under the Enemy's Nose in Verin Shorja
Despite the presence of the enemy at the borders of the village, the residents of Verin Shorja remain steadfast in their commitment to their land. They are currently harvesting barley, and in a few days, they will sow autumn wheat. Artem Yeranosyan, the administrative leader of Verin Shorja, spoke to Sputnik Armenia, saying, "The enemy stands 500 meters away; how can you not be worried? But we don’t break, we carry on with our work, standing firmly on the land with the same heart and spirit."
There have been no incidents reported in recent days between the enemy, who has violated Armenia's state border, and Armenian soldiers. Yeranosyan noted that the soldiers of the second army corps are positioned directly against the enemy, while residents of the village remain, determined not to sell their livestock or leave their homeland. Until the enemy withdraws from the village's boundaries, the village chief serves as an example to his fellow villagers.
"I have a large farm myself, but during this time, I haven't sold a single head of livestock. If we sell even one head, it will create panic among the people," Yeranosyan explained.
The village leader added that in the Gegharkunik province, unlike in Syunik, the enemy has not reached their pastures; they have taken control of the grazing lands, but Yeranosyan is distressed that this year's yield is not what it should be, as they are forced to work much harder to gather the necessary hay supplies.
"No one is selling hay; there is none to sell. If every villager can gather winter supplies and provide for their livestock, it will be a significant achievement, let alone selling them," he concluded.
