New Gunfire Reported at Kuth Positions, Residents Raise Alarm
Residents of the Sotk and Kuth communities in the Gegharkunik region are reporting new gunfire at the Kuth positions. One of the locals told 168.am, "We heard gunfire around 9 PM yesterday. We went outside and saw that they were firing light bullets into the air."
Kuth village mayor Sima Chitchyan confirmed the information: "Around 10 PM yesterday, we heard gunfire, went outside, and saw that shots were being fired. It was a very short burst of fire and then it ended. The boys said it wasn't automatic gunfire, but rather from a DShK (heavy machine gun). One person from the village also called and said there was gunfire, and I said, 'Yes, we know...'"
It should be noted that since May 12, the enemy has advanced several kilometers into the Syunik and Gegharkunik sections, violating the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, claiming it is their territory and thus will not retreat. In the Gegharkunik region, enemy forces have advanced towards the villages of Kuth, Azat, Norabak, and Verin Shorja.
During this period, numerous incidents between Azerbaijani and Armenian military personnel have been recorded. Notably, on May 25, a contract soldier, junior sergeant V. Y. Khurshudyan (32), was fatally wounded during a gun battle that began after an enemy firing burst in the Verin Shorja border area. Two days later, on May 27, six servicemen of the RA Armed Forces were surrounded and captured by Azerbaijani forces in the Gegharkunik border area.
On June 5, Azerbaijani forces stole 80 head of cattle from the pastures in Kuth.
