New Details on Efforts for the Return of Armenian Prisoners

On July 16, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Sigrid Kaag, addressed another letter to Parliament informing them about the ongoing efforts for the return of Armenian prisoners.

The minister specifically mentioned that the government continues to call on Azerbaijan to fulfill its obligations undertaken through international agreements and the trilateral statement during meetings in various formats at both bilateral and multilateral levels. She assured that the Netherlands remains committed to facilitating the prompt return of all Armenian prisoners.

In addition to the written letter, S. Kaag also discussed this commitment during a debate on Armenia-Azerbaijan topics organized by the Foreign Relations Committee of Parliament on the same day.

The Acting Minister also informed Parliament about the recent visit of the Foreign Ministers of Austria, Lithuania, and Romania to Baku, where they raised the issue of prisoners on behalf of the EU. S. Kaag assured that, during discussions with member states on this matter, as well as regarding increasing humanitarian assistance in Artsakh, the Netherlands has consistently advocated for an enhanced EU role.
